CBDa is the precursor to CBD. It is the parent compound found naturally in Hemp. CBD is produced unnaturally when CBDa is heated (“decarboxylated”) in most commercial extraction processes. In raw cannabis, including fresh cannabis leaves and flowers that have not been dried, cured, or heated, like Nesa’s Hemp, all active compounds from the plant are first found in the form of acids. CBDa contains these active compounds.

A 2013 study from scientists in Guelph, Canada, found that CBDa was a thousand times more powerful than CBD in binding to a specific serotonin receptor linked to anti-nausea and anti-anxiety effects when administered alongside low-doses of the traditional anti-nausea drug for chemotherapy patients, ondansetron (OND).

Cannabinoids like CBDa and CBD interact with the body through its endocannabinoid system (ECS), a regulatory network that alters the release of neurotransmitters in the brain to keep functions in balance. However, CBDa and other acidic forms of cannabinoids affect the ECS in very different ways than the decarboxylated forms of cannabinoids, like CBD and THC, do.
